Support Kalu, organisers tell medical outreach’s beneficiaries

Organisers of a free medical outreach at the Marist Brothers Juniorate (MBJ), Uturu, Abia State, have called on beneficiaries to appreciate and support Dr Orji Uzor Kalu for his contribution to the success of the outreach.
The free medical outreach organised by the Old Boys of the school for members of staff and their families was, according to the organisers, made possible by the support of the former governor of Abia State and business mogul.

Speaking at the commencement of the programme at the school auditorium, the President of the Uturu/Ishiagu chapter of the X-JAYS (as members are called), Mr. Daniel Ekwuribe, said Kalu had been a pillar of support to the group. Ekwuribe told the about 100 beneficiaries of the oneday free medical outreach that the former governor had been exceptional in his support for the programme even at the shortest notice.
He said: “When we contacted him, he promised to support us and he has done so. He also sent two of his newspapers to cover the event. We appreciate him and urge beneficiaries to do the same, because if you appreciate the good someone has done he will be encouraged to do more.”
Ekwuribe also said the outreach was the first of its kind but would soon be taken to other chapters of the Old Boys. He explained that before the medical service three lectures were delivered to the beneficiaries on causes and prevention of stroke and epilepsy, children health and cancer.

The X-JAYS chapter president noted that he was satisfied with the service, saying that health issues should not be taken lightly.

Also, Dr. Solomon Ogwulumba, the immediate past president of the chapter and one of the medical personnel for the outreach, said they had to appreciate Kalu because whether in office or out of it he had not failed to identify with the youth.

He said: “Dr Orji Uzor Kalu does not discriminate against any group. He makes no demarcation between the young and the old. He identifies with noble programmes no matter who is involved.”
