No special treatment for Uzoho – Rohr

Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr has said the first choice spot in the team is still open, refuting claims he had already offered the position to Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

New Telegraph reported that the Manager had considered the 19-year-old as his number one goalkeeper after he ended his chase for Vincent Enyeama’s return to the national and the German lent credence to the story when he sent his goalkeeper assistant Enrico Pionetti to Spain to work with Uzoho.

The coach said on a radio programme(Mega Sport) on Tuesday that the number one spot was still open to all goalkeepers in his team and he was not giving Uzoho a preferential treatment.

He said another youngster Dele Alampasu and Daniel Akpeyi would still welcome Pionetti at their bases abroad before the World Cup.

He said another goalkeepers’ trainer Alloy Agu would work with the home based shot stopper Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye as he hopes to solve the problem in that department of his team ahead of the World Cup.

“Uzoho is working hard, but he is only third choice keeper at La Coruna, and very young. Let’s work on all our goalkeepers.

“We will give the same attention to Alampasu, Agu will work on the local lads as well. We will work equally with all the goalkeepers we have available, even with Akpeyi in South Africa,” he said.

Meanwhile, the coach has also sent one of his assistants Nabil Trabelsi to monitor the performance of Fortuna Dusseldorf shot-stopper, Maduka Okeye with the aim of keeping the 18-year-old as a backup if the need arises.

AOIFootball.com reports that Maduka is not expected to be named in the Eagles’ squad for next month’s friendly as the NFF are yet to make a formal approach for the German-born goalkeeper.
