The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has interrogated a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), over his alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms procurement scandal.
Highly placed sources said Ihejirika arrived the headquarters of the antigraft agency at 11:00am yesterday. One of the sources, who spoke in confidence with New Telegraph last night, said the former COAS was granted administrative bail, pending conclusion of investigation.
“A former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), was today, February 21, 2018 interrogated on his role in the now infamous arms deal scandal. “Ihejirika, who came to the EFCC Headquarters, Abuja, at about 11am is being questioned as part of the ongoing investigations into the $2.1 billion arms scandal involving a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
“He is being questioned as related to the procurement of arms and ammunition during the time he held sway as Chief of Army Staff between September 2010 and January 2014.
“He (Ihejirika) will be released on administrative bail as soon as preliminary interrogations are over, as he has also requested to go back and gather more information, expressing unawareness as regards various documents and questions put to him by investigators”, the source said.
A former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Dasuki (rtd), has remained in the custody of the Department of State Service, over allegations that his office had misapplied the aforesaid cash.
