Middle school bullies film themselves ripping wig off the head of a classmate who has a scalp condition (video)
A group of middle school bullies targeted a 16-year-old 8th-grader and terrorized her by pulling off her wig to reveal her bald head.
Lauren ‘Lulu’ Williams, 16, has a serious scalp condition so she wears a wig to school.
Lauren has both eczema and psoriasis and both conditions have affected her scalp and her hair growth.
On Friday, as usual, she wore a wig to Franklin High School in Tennessee, but a group of students had already planned to humiliate her and assigned a guy to do the dirty work. While in the hallway speaking to a female friend, a male student walked up to her, ripped off her wig then ran away down the hallway while someone else filmed. The video was shared on Snapchat with the caption "weave snatching."
Lauren is not keeping quiet about the assault but has decided to do something about it. She is making a stand and celebrating her hairless head. She is also speaking out against bullying. So far, she's already gotten a bunch of support from people who have watched the video.
She spoke to the Tennessean about the harrowing episode, saying: "That’s the one thing I cherish, having a wig so that I can feel safe and beautiful like other girls… So when they tore it off, it was kind of like stripping me naked and putting me out in the open. I just heard her laughing outside the stall the entire time, and I was crying."
Authorities and officials from Franklin High are investigating the bullying incident. The school district said they would prosecute delinquent behavior to the fullest extent of the law.
